The Government of India set up the BEE(Bureau of energy efficiency) on the 1st of March 2002, and it comes under the energy conservation Act of 2001. The mission of the BEE of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency is to assist in developing plans and procedures with a push on self-regulation and business laws within the overall structure of the Energy Conservation Act of 2001.

The BEE( Bureau of Energy Efficiency) was in the news recently as it celebrated the 19th foundation day with Bureau of Energy Efficiency and Ministry of Power. They created a stakeholder conference to form a vision towards developing an energy-efficient India. The BEE expanded the coverage of its star labeling program.
Expanded Star Labeling program means that more items or more commodities are included in its star labeling, namely energy-efficient deep freezer and light commercial air conditioners. With this inclusion, BEE will cover new 26 applications under this star labeling program, and the program will initially be launched involuntary mode from the 2nd of March 2020 to 31st of December 2021.
So presently, this will be on voluntary mode, and after that, it will be executed compulsory after examining the extent of market conversion in this singular section of appliances. The initiative is expected to save around 2.8 billion units financially by 2030, which is equivalent to greenhouse gas reduction of 2.4 million tons of carbon dioxide.
The BEE has formulated a star labeling program, and it comes under the Energy Conservation Act of 2001. During the event, a database on energy efficiency was also launched, so this database on energy efficiency is called a Huge Effective information tool. The huge attached data information tool is a database on energy efficiency is the initiative taken by BEE along with the World Resources Initiative(WRI).
It is a user-friendly platform that explains India’s energy efficiency landscape across industry appliances, building, transport, municipal and agricultural sectors. The database also shows the capacity building and new initiatives taken up by the government across the industry in the increased energy efficiency domain.
Current Status of Energy Efficiency in India: Refrigerator Electricity savings BEE
India’s energy sector is set for a transition with its new development targeted by the government. It includes 175 gigawatts of installed renewable energy capacity by 2022, and it is an ambitious target set by the government.

Two hundred smart cities are set for the mission of promoting mobility that is electric mobility or the use of electric vehicles. The purpose also includes electrification of the railway sector, electrification of households, solarization of agricultural pump sets, promotion of clean cooking through providing LPG, and many other activities to make energy-efficient India.
According to World Energy Outlook, energy efficiency has a maximum greenhouse gas abatement potential of around fifty percent, followed by renewable biofuels, nuclear carbon capture, and storage. The International Energy Agency (IEA) publishes it.
India can avoid building 300 gigawatts of new energy production up to 2040 with the implementation of aggressive power efficiency policies. Successful implementation of power efficiency measures added to power savings of 7.14 percent of total current expenditure of the nation and radiation decrease of 108.20to 8 million tons of carbon dioxide during 2017-18.
